Metamodern therapy is therapy without a therapist. It focuses on the cause of distress, rather than the symptoms.
It is four 45 minutes sessions with a trained facilitator.
It is a semi structured process that follows the fulcrum model.
It is based around the premise that people like to work out personalised solutions to their problems, to do this they may need help understanding the cause of such problems. This is what metamodern therapy provides
1. Understanding the mind and body.
2. Understanding what disrupts balance within the body.
3. Understands what drives behaviour, and therefore how to change it.
It does not replace other therapies/ medication that focus on symptoms relief.
Aim is to empower, and allow for the natural co-creation of individual solutions to the varied things driving distress.
They are not trained therapists, although they all have a supervisor who have a recognised clinical registration.
They are normal people who have knowledge and insight into mental illness. Often but not always they have direct experience and we try to match people up based on this.
Where possible we match genders and sexuality, as we have found this often deepens the understanding of discrimination and troubles faced.
People who have suffered from a condition often understand it best, they may have found school difficult and not achieved as well as they could, which shuts off many of the classic routes to help others. As in the process of alcoholics anonymous, we understand that empowering these people to pass on solutions, and get involved is beneficial.
Western, modern treatment for mental illness is not working. We have seen huge increases in treatment, both pharmalogical and non-pharmalogical, despite this numbers have continued to increase. This has been termed the treatment prevalence paradox. Put simply, if therapy and medication worked, we would have little or no mental distress.
We don’t promise metamodern therapy will cure individuals of their distress, we promise that through understanding the possible root causes, will allow for long term solutions to be developed.
Works by
1. Reduction of guilt, blame and shame.
2. Increase understanding of the body and mind
3. Increase understanding about society
4. Practical solutions.
If you think you are ready when send us an email and we can arrange an appointment or try to answer your questions.
Then you read and sign our terms and conditions. This process only works if those taking part take responsibility for any worsening in their mental health and their behaviour to each other. Any signs of abuse, coercion or profiteering will lead to blacklisting from our service.
Everyone participating agrees to treat each other non-judgementally, with no discrimination. The whole process is about trust, and trust that we are all endowed with the ability to listen and that when the root causes are explained, people can work out their solutions.
Whereby traditional therapies are financially incentivised to see their clients as long as possible, metamodern therapy is free to access, is a maximum of four sessions and there is a opportunity to donate money afterwards if it has been helpful.
We also encourage participation in delivering metamodern therapy afterwards. We know this is a great way to give back, help and improve one's distress.
It is not trauma therapy, but understands the role trauma plays in illness.
It is not talking therapy, but understands that listening and human connection is essential for recovery.
It is not for people in a crisis, but will help to avoid them.
It is not an acute service.
